2024 Nominees for Clyde Moore Memorial Hall of Fame

Nomination for the NAFA Clyde Moore Memorial Hall of Fame
BeepBeep - Mix, CRN 170802, (85) Canine Dirt Diggers, Jennifer Rohling
Nominated by: Canine Dirt Diggers, Corcoran, MN, US

Race /rās/ noun..." to compete with another or others to see who is the fastest at covering a set course. This is also the definition of Beep! In her abbreviated 5 year career, Beep and Jennifer Rohling attained many accolades in a short period of time. Beep debuted with a time of 3.48, running from only 15 feet! She immediately became an untiring start dog with consistent speed that was unmatched. Her speed paired with Jennifer’s starts made them a lethal combination. She consistently ran times in the 3.4’s and always ran several 3.3’s at every tournament ultimately posting her fastest time of 3.357. Beep helped her team, Canine Dirt Diggers, get three invitations into the CanAm Finals, with their highest finish of 3rd place. Beep’s life mimicked one of her Flyball heats…a perfect start, a flash of lightning, and then it was over. Beep’s time with us was tragically cut short in February 2023, due to aggressive cancer. She didn’t get the opportunity to add to this nomination by running more years, getting more points or winning more championships but her performance is legendary, nonetheless. Beep was an amazing athlete, and truly a one in a million dog!

Nomination for the NAFA Clyde Moore Memorial Hall of Fame
Elphaba - Mix, CRN 120535, (171) Fur Fun, Leerie and Julie Jenkins
Nominated by: Laura Kroeger, Fuquay-Varina, NC, US

It is a great honor to submit this nomination of Flying Puck's Wicked Witch of the West AKA-Elphaba to the Clyde Moore Memorial Hall of Fame. Elphaba’s career was full of significant moments in NAFA’s history and she was an invaluable member of her club FurFun. Elphaba began her career as FurFun’s A team height dog in 2012. Her consistency and speed allowed FurFun to launch a successful campaign for multiple CanAm invitational wins, Regional Champion wins, breaking the 15-second barrier, and more. Elphaba was the height dog on BOTH FurFun’s CanAm Regular and Multibreed Invitational lineups and remained so for 7 years. During those years, FurFun competed in the Regular class all 7 and the multibreed class 6 times. They won the Mutibreed championship in 2014 and 2018, set the fastest CanAm Multibreed time in 2014 and the second fastest Regular time in 2017. Elphaba was also the height dog on FurFun's FCI Flyball Open World Cup winning team in 2018 setting a new FCI record of 15.43 seconds. Elphaba finished her career with the overall title of Flyball Grand Champion 70K and earned her Iron Dog title in 2021. Elphaba truly is deserving of this prestigious award!

Tactix - Mix, CRN 080997, (318) On The Fly, Morgan Jarvis

Tactix was a fast high dog on our team for his whole career. He could run in any position, by any person and still run as fast as he could no matter what. He brought many new handlers into the game of flyball and taught them how to pass, and be part of a team in the lanes. He was also the perfect dog for new and learning dogs to run into or take a pass from as he was focused on his job. He played from 2008 through 2020 on regular, open and multi teams. Healing the team gain new personal best records and CanAm divisional championships.

Nomination for the NAFA Clyde Moore Memorial Hall of Fame

Nominated by: Mackenzie Maidl, Loretto, MN, US

There is no doubt that Vimy is not only a key piece of Animal Inn history she is also a NAFA icon and legend. The feral 7” height dog, that perfected the power stride, ended her career with 73,099 points a PB of 3.91. During her racing career she won 6 regional championships and 2 NAFA Championships. Vimy was no stranger to the Canam invitational either. During her career she won 1 CanAm Championship, had 1 CanAm Runner up placement, and a CanAm 3rd place. Vimy was part of the 1st NAFA club to average in the 14s. Vimy packed a lot of punch in that little body always giving it 110% every time she stepped into the lanes. It was impossible not to smile watching her run.

Snickers ??" Bassett Hound ??" CRN # 170365 The melodious tones from a joyful hound dog in the racing lanes always meant Snickers was lined up and ready to race. Tournaments in region 2 and a couple in Florida have enjoyed watching Snickers race for 7 years with K9 Thunder in Region 2. She has been a solid, integral part of our team’s racing line up, handled by Victoria and Marilyn. Her signature iconic “woof woof” as approaching the box has made many box loaders laugh. Although there were moments of being a scent hound, such as finding chicken rewards dropped in the other lane Snickers is a valuable member of K9 Thunder. This awesome Basset Hound was part of flyball history of racing two bassets in the same line up, with team dog’s help making time! This fit, agile and smart hound dog has demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for the sport of flyball, proving flyball is certainly a sport for all dogs. Arrow - Border Collie, CRN 150606, (971) K9 Outlaws, Angela Graczyk
Nominated by: Kim Kowalski, (971) K9 Outlaws, Chandler, AZ, US

Arrow is one of the most well known dogs in Region 6/16! He stands out for being calm, quiet, & usually cuddling with his mom while waiting in the lane but snapping to attention with a quiet, growly “Ready” from his mom. Always ready to help fill a spot - he managed to race with every flyball club in AZ but we’ve been proud to call Arrow & his mom, Angela, K9 Outlaws since 2017. As a start dog, he earned 3 perfect starts & countless .001 & .002 starts. He’s raced at tournaments in AZ, CA, CO, and at Can Am. He retired in Feb 2024 after earning his FGDCH in April 2023 & his Iron Dog in November 2023. Post Covid, he was one of two racing dogs left on the Outlaws. He has trained every dog we currently have running & helped us return to racing. While retired, he continues to come to practice to train the green dogs & enjoy his legacy. Arrow & Angela are an integral part of the Outlaws, well known throughout regions 6/16, and we hope to cap off his well earned retirement with a final honor, Region 6 MVP.

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 6
Rebel - Border Collie, CRN 180038, (874) Arizona Supercharged, Kristin Montoya
Nominated by: Hailey Crider, (874) Arizona Supercharged, Mesa, AZ, US

Rebel is quite literally the best!! She is by far the most reliable and consistent teammate I've ever had the pleasure of racing with. She's able to run in any position, on any lineup, in a moments notice. She often picks up the slack when something unexpected pops up mid-tournament. Recently, Rebel hit a PB - at 7 years young!! She's truly a fierce competitor and leaves it all out in the Flyball lanes. You know when she's near the flyball lanes because you'll hear her yelling for excitement! It's an absolute treat to be able to share the lanes with Rebel and her handler on a regular basis. I'm SO proud to be a part of her team and to get to witness her glory on a regular basis. Rebel is truly the definition of Most Valuable Player.

Sophie - Jack/Parson Russell Terrier NND, CRN 160384, (470) Diamonds in the Ruff, Carrie Lumsden-Bitternose

Diamonds in the Ruff proudly nominates Sophie, an exceptional 11-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, for the Region 8 MVP award. Sophie sets the jump height for her team at 7 inches. In the lanes, Sophie always demonstrates her strong attitude and competitive spirit, as long as there is some cheese involved, of course. Sophie has made it very clear that start position is where she prefers to be! Her determination and attitude shine through every time she steps onto the lanes. So far in her career, Sophie has earned over 50,000 points, making her the 48th top point earner in NAFA (Jack/Parson Russell Terrier NND). It’s not uncommon to hear cheers for her during close races, especially if she has a rerun against a much larger dog. In and away from the lanes, Sophie is a beloved companion who makes friends with everyone she meets, and she particularly enjoys spending time with grandchildren. In summary, Sophie truly reflects her passion for playing flyball in her attitude and excitement. We wholeheartedly recommend her for this honor!

REGION 10

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 10
Capri - Jack Russell Terrier, CRN 120651, (849) Carleton County Flyball, Carole Anne Naves
Nominated by: Jenna Stockford, (849) Carleton County Flyball, Florenceville-Bristol, NB, CA

This year, the Carleton County Flyball Club would like to nominate Little Eden Seasonally in Style, “Capri,” for Region 10 MVP! Capri is everything you could want in a flyball dog. She began her flyball career in 2013 and has been solid from the start, earning her first three titles in her debut tournament! She has played in almost 140 tournaments throughout regions 10, 13, and 20. Capri is a point-and-shoot dog who can run in any position from start to anchor and has helped train countless other dogs and handlers. She does her job so well that during one tournament, when her ball ejected from the box and went out under the curtain into the crating area, she still went and retrieved it, came back, lined herself up, and came back over all four jumps, winning her dog of the day! Capri earned her Iron Dog in 2022 and is currently working on her 60,000 points. On top of that, she recently became the number one ranked Jack Russell Terrier in NAFA! Most importantly, Capri’s love of the game is undeniable. With every heat out on the mats, she can be heard barking excitedly, ready to play!

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 10
Chip - Labrador Retriever, CRN 190307, (1130) Freddy Flyers, Lisa Hay-Busson
Nominated by: Lisa Hay-Busson, (1130) Freddy Flyers, Fredericton, NB, CA

We would like to nominate Chip as 2024 MVP for Region 10. Chip has shown that he is deserving of the 2024 MVP from his love of the sport. He took to the sport quickly earning his FD title at only 20 months of age back in 2018. This boy is the definition of a point and shoot dog. He will run for anyone, he will run in any position, he has run on many open teams with multiple clubs switching from 2-hole boxes to 4-hole boxes and still maintains his perfect box turn. Chip has been a staple in our new club as our most solid dog and because of him we have been able to grow our new club with him helping train our new and upcoming flyball dogs, two of which earned their FD titles back in the spring. Without him this would have been a struggle for our club. Chip has helped coach newbies, proof beginners, refine seasoned racers, and given new handlers the experience of racing a dog. For all these reasons and many more we would like to nominate Chip for 2024 MVP for Region 10.

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 10
Kannon - Mix, CRN 130126, (266) Fast 'n FURious, Chris and Eileen Higginbotham
Nominated by: Shari Dawson, (266) Fast 'n FURious, Winsloe, PE, CA

FnF are pleased to put forward Rocket Relay's Fired From a "Kannon" as our MVP nominee. Kannon has done it all in her career; from being on region speed record teams, region champion teams, proofing new dogs, and training new handlers. She has been valuable to the team as she will run for anyone in any position with any other dogs, and she even manages to fire a few up into faster times when she shares the mats with them. She has also spent most of her career working as a school therapy dog, doing important work in helping our little ones self-regulate. At our school, we have several students who need to be approached from a trauma informed place and Kannon has done spectacular work with them. She is fantastic in the house as well, playing with other dogs and finding that balance for socialization of new puppies. She is ready to go when you want but is happy to just hang with her people, daddy Chris being her favorite. We hope you find her as deserving as we do and put your votes towards her. Her school community would love to hang a trophy this spring!

Maggie Mae - Chihuahua, CRN 170074, (741) Tampa Bay Barkaneers, Lorie Simmerman
Nominated by: Joan Weesies, (741) Tampa Bay Barkaneers, St. Petersburg, FL, US

Maggie Mae is so deserving of Region 11 MVP. Maggie Mae, a 7” Chihuahua, began racing in 2017 and quickly proved she was a fierce Height Dog. Maggie Mae settled into her spot as the HD on our regular team. She could run anywhere in the pack and posted a personal best time of 4.611. In the 8 years she’s been racing, Maggie Mae has earned her Flyball Grand Champion 40k. She loves to bark at her teammates while she’s lining up to start a race. And she’s often a crowd favorite being a little chihuahua running on a team of big dogs. I have rarely seen a dog run with more passion for the sport.

REGION 12

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 12
Bob - Mix, CRN 170638, (685) Synergetic Surge, Amy Gunter
Nominated by: Diamond Ruman, (685) Synergetic Surge, Sturgeon County, AB, CA

Ricky Bobby… BOB This dog from the day I met him at 8 weeks old was something very special. I picked him up in Ontario for Amy and he rode 33 hours happily across Canada doing recalls at the potty breaks. He was more like a little machine than a puppy, he was so focused and worked so hard to get his tug. I brought him to Amy at a team practice where he did perfect recalls with tons of distractions. They instantly bonded. From then on Bob has been nothing but beyond great. His accomplishments: * Personal Best of 3.390 seconds. * In the line up for the first 14 second run in Region 12. * CanAm finals 2018, 2019 and 2023.(Featured on ESPN) * At 9 years old he is still running on our top team and running 3.5s in pass. On top of all Bob’s accomplishments in Flyball, he is also just a really nice dog. He has a great temperament and is always nice to be around. I cannot think of a better deserving dog for Regional MVP. Bob has always followed the Ricky Bobby motto: “I wanna go fast. I wanna go fast.”

REGION 13

She was a natural at learning the game, was very solid, loved to play, and was always ready to run. She earned her Iron Dog at Can Am in October 2023. PITA was the best beginner sport dog anyone could ask for. She brought Caroline to the world of flyball, and today Caroline is working toward becoming a NAFA judge. PITA and Caroline were among founding members of Fire & Ice Flyball Club. She is sorely missed and warmly remembered. It was an honor and a privilege to have PITA on our team.

Cal - Border Collie, CRN 170405, (1109) Manic Menagerie, Rachel Olson
Nominated by: Rachel Olson, (1109) Manic Menagerie, White Oak, PA, US

Cal has been Mr. Reliable since 2017, running most of his career so far in open with rare flags. Cal is often found schmoozing anyone with snacks on the sidelines, offering his tricks, before racing anywhere for anyone. After racing, he is found wallowing in the baby pool or trying to steal hats or give face kisses. Cal loves to start and still matches his personal best fairly regularly. He is responsible for training more new handlers than I can count, and was the introduction to racing for no less than 3 new handlers so far this year. He is often handed off to clubs who need a dog, last year at CanAm he ran for a new handler from another region. Cal has taken more than one handler out hitting his tug like a freight train but is gentle with junior handlers. He is invaluable in training green dogs, teaching baby dogs to pass or serving as a distraction. He has ran flyball in 3 countries (US, Canada, France) and loves doing flyball demos at professional basketball games to introduce more people to flyball! He has 8 Iron Dog points and is very near his 40k title.

REGION 16

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 16
Ella - English Cocker Spaniel, CRN 220093, (481) Bay Racers, Donald and Michele Watson
Nominated by: Kathy Schultz, (481) Bay Racers, San Carlos, CA, US

Ella is an English Cocker Spaniel that my trainers (Don & Michele) purchased at the end of covid after they lost Cody to cancer. Cody was the first ECS to earn several MB titles. Ella just started flyball and was a PT height dog in July 2022. The first race FT height dog wouldn't run, so it was "get Ella". We were nervous, she was new and 2 rings. She successfully raced and never looked back. Ella has often been run by other people, including myself and JR handlers and her tail never stops and she’s a joy to run. She's steady and with the help of her fast Bay Racer Team they've gotten many perfect days, 600 points. She’s usually a crowd favorite. Ella helped her teammates Jack Jack and Madison earn their Hobbes. In the background, little Ella had something special brewing. In July 2024, at the same venue where she started running FT, Ella became the first ECS to earn 40000 points in large part due to her fast teammates, her steadiness and her love of the game.

REGION 18

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 18
J.A.R.V. I.S. - Mix, CRN 210224, (695) Alaska Dogs Gone Wild, Cindy Rabe
Nominated by: Alaska Dogs Gone Wild, (695) Alaska Dogs Gone Wild, Anchorage, AK, US

J.A.R.V.I.S. brings speed, reliability, versatility, and endurance to every team he races with. He runs equally well in any position, passing into or being passed by any dog. Anybody with a tug can handle him, even while his usual handler is running her other dog in the opposing lane. No matter how many races J.A.R.V.I.S. runs, his performance is just as good at the end of the day as at the beginning. It's no wonder he is a go-to dog for double-listing as backup! Despite being a smaller border whippet (31 lbs), he ran a line-to-line personal best of 3.483 twice, the fastest a dog has ever run in Alaska. J.A.R.V.I.S. also helped put Alaska flyball on the map with his team setting an ADGW club record of 15.815 and winning the CanAm Classic Regular Division I championship in 2021. This year, J.A.R.V.I.S. helped usher in a new generation of flyball dogs by serving as a robo dog for them to pass into--at home and at an out-of-state tournament. J.A.R.V.I.S. is at a stage in his flyball career where he not only contributes to our current success but also to the success of our future!

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 18
Lemmy - Mix, CRN 210195, (894) Glacier Shakers, Jessica Koch
Nominated by: Glacier Shakers Flyball Club, (894) Glacier Shakers, Anchorage, AK, US

Traditionally Alaska has a lot of Husky mixes. So it is no surprise that we have several on our club. One of ours is half husky, half border collie. Ask any musher and they will tell you, they tried that, and it was nuts. Well our Lemon, aka Lemmy, is SPICY. Her first practice she entered the building hackles up, attitude at full attention. But we gave her a job, and ultimately tamed the beast. Our girl started her training about five years ago, she has only been racing for three years now. Over the course of this last year, she has completely come alive. Her and her handler, Jes Koch, have found a rhythm that has not gone unnoticed in the lanes. People watching have remarked about how incredible she is to watch. These two have played in California, Michigan, Nebraska, Missouri and recently Canada. L2L this kid has run 3.9s in starts and as of late is averaging 4.0/4.1 in the pack. She can run anywhere, and for anyone, and she only speeds up as the day wears on. She has truly become an incredibly versatile creature. A most valuable beast on our club and "A" team.

A very competitive ACD that won’t fetch a ball outside of flyball. She’s extremely consistent and free of error. She ran a 4.2 and even got a 0.000 starting race 1 of CanAm one year!

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 19
Tesla - Mix, CRN 160187, (1070) Be Right Back, Lydia Goggin
Nominated by: Aly Jabrocki, (1092) 5280 Spaceballs, Denver, CO, US

Tesla the "mini beast" has proven herself to be one of the most consistent and reliable height dogs in our region for years. She can run any position, be handled by anyone, and is consistent and fast every single time. Not only does she run with her own club - in her prime she was always willing to help out others who might need a last minute replacement or backup dog. In addition to all of her hard work at competitions, she has taught many new handlers how to run a dog, and been invaluable when teaching new dogs how to race. Her focus, drive and love for the game are absolutely infectious and you can't help but smile when you see her run. For this little one, flyball absolutely is life.

REGION 21

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 21
Pepper - Miniature American/Australian Sheph, CRN 150460, (682) Dog Gone Devils, Nic Chase
Nominated by: Carol Freeman, (682) Dog Gone Devils, Cedar Rapids, IA, IA, US

Pepper has been racing since 2015. She is versitile and flexible and has run with at least six different clubs in three different regions. She was part of the 2019 Region 4 Multibreed team running with Outrun. In 2023, she earned her Iron Dog. That same year she was part of the 2023 CanAm Division 8 Champs race with Dog Gone Devils as the height dog, still going strong jumping 10s at 10 years old. In 2024, Pepper earned 16,524 points in one NAFA year to put her in the top 5 point earners for the year (expected placement). She is also the third MAS in NAFA history to earn a Hobbes (September 2024).

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 21
Rush - Border Collie, CRN 160507, (532) Skidmarkz, Emily Helin
Nominated by: Hannah Ringsdorf, (532) Skidmarkz, Oxford, IA, US

I know no dog more fitting for this award than Rush. Rush debuted in flyball in 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. She has been a huge asset to Skidmarkz running in any position, on any team and executing it perfectly. She has trained most of Skidz new handlers and junior handlers because she knows her job. She is so easy to line up, release and run that the team calls her a “point and shoot.” Emily and Rush have double digit perfect starts, countless .00x starts and likely more perfect passes than anyone could count. Emily has worked so hard with Rush to make her who she is today. She used to stare in the early days of her career but now she’s just challenging her opponent for a good race. Truthfully, I don’t feel like much else can be said about Rush- she speaks for herself and the entire region loves her.

Nomination Regional MVP 2024 - REGION 21
Spike - Mix, CRN 110659, (682) Dog Gone Devils, Alexis Adams
Nominated by: Lexi Adams, (682) Dog Gone Devils, Cedar Rapids, IA, IA, US

While he may be under my name, our Spike always adored running for my father. He was Chuck Adams's special little guy. They have run together forever and have always had the most fun. In his 14 years of racing, Spike ran for several different teams when they were in need, including our own. 2023 CANAM he stepped in. When we all had thought he was starting to retire, he ran near seconds faster than the weekend prior. Spike has been called in many times to help other teams, and many people have run Spike over the years. Just ask to see the scratches on their hips! This year, at the ripe old age of 18, Spike is enjoying his retirement, with his father. They have a bond that is so incredible and strong, and as much as Spike would enjoy his bacon or steak at the end of a run, he was always thrilled to have his dad right there. But, if there's bacon involved, I can guarantee Spike will run right back into that lane. No matter how good his nap is.

2024 Nominees for Judge of the Year

Nomination for Judge of the Year
Bryan Roper - Sandston, VA
Nominated by: Tina Hayden, Halethorpe, MD, US

I would like to nominate Bryan Roper for NAFA judge of the year. I have had the opportunity to observe Bryan as a judge both at tournaments I have attended as well as having him as head judge at our own tournaments we have hosted. Bryan’s knowledge of NAFA rules and regulations are evident both in and out of the lanes. Bryan always demonstrates a positive attitude, steps in to help those running the tournaments with tasks not expected from the attending judges, treats everyone with kindness and respect and encourages new competitors. He is well respected as both a judge and a competitor. Bryan is a perfect example of the type of judge that NAFA should wish to have representing the sport of flyball.

Nomination for Judge of the Year
Dale Smith - Fort Calhoun, NE
Nominated by: Lisa Hapgood, Highlands Ranch, CO, US

Dale has been in flyball forever. He is an amazing judge as well as he has trained many others. On top of all of that, he keeps the racing at canam running smoothly. Although he hasn’t played flyball in many years, he continues to help NAFA and canam in so many ways.

Nomination for Judge of the Year
Justin Ernst - Blaine, MN
Nominated by: Kathy West, Buffalo, MN, US

Justin is a fantastic judge and a great representation of NAFA. When on and off the racing lanes he always has a smile on his face and shows genuine care and concern for handlers and dogs. I have watched Justin check in with handlers and dogs that have gotten hurt at later times in the or even at the next tournament to see how they are doing. Another example of the great job he does is at our last tournament, we had a beginner dog that liked to chase and were worried about it but wanted to start her as 7th dog. We were tight on handlers for the weekend, but with each time on the floor we were give at least an attempt to work on this dogs ability to focus on handler and return to her. I could see him watch the dog/handler progress over the weekend. It will not surprise me when in the future when this dog is racing, he will talk with us about our training successes in warm ups.
